Charing Cross Tunnel

The middle of three contiguous railway tunnels which take the North Clyde Line beneath the centre of Glasgow, the High Street Tunnel connects Charing Cross Railway Station with Glasgow Queen Street Low Level Station. Opened in 1886 as part of the Glasgow City & District Railway, it is 1008m (3306 feet) in length. The tunnel is relatively shallow, running directly under West Regent Street, and was mostly built using the cut-and-cover method.
