Pirn Hill

(Windy Knowe)

A modest summit and viewpoint surrounded by woodland in the Scottish Borders, Pirn Hill (known locally as Windy Knowe) lies a half-mile (0.8 km) northeast of the centre of Innerleithen. An Iron-Age hill-fort occupies the summit, which gives commanding view along the Tweed Valley and the village below. In 1999 a viewpoint was opened here within a network of way-marked trails. Interpretation panels were installed on a circle of stone-built bases which represent the size of a typical Iron-Age dwelling. Later carved sandstone tablets, illustrating two thousand years of Innerleithen history, were installed here, the work of local artist Mary Kenny.
