Newyearfield

A predominantly residential neighbourhood which forms the northwestern part of the district of Ladywell in Livingston (West Lothian), Newyearfield is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) northwest of the Almondvale Shopping Centre. Taking its name from a farm which once occupied this area, it is said to have been the site of a hunting lodge, where the Kings of Scotland chose to enjoy their first hunting of the year. The farm buildings remain and are used as a community centre and units for small businesses. Social housing was provided as blocks a flats in the south of the area - although many have been sold under right-to-buy legislation - and detached and semi-detached private housing to the north, characteristically of two storeys and with a garage. Newyearfield shares the same theme for its street names as the western 'braes' section of Ladywell; namely birds.
