Woodlands Park

A peripheral residential district of N Livingston in West Lothian, Woodlands Park lies to the north of Deans on the western slopes of Dechmont Law, 2¼ miles / 3.5 km north northwest of the town centre. At the entrance to the estate are older semi-detached properties or terraces of single and two-storey houses while, further in, are large detached homes. The streets are all 'Parks' with a woodland theme (Beechwood Park, Deanswood Park, Elmwood Park, Maplewood Park, Middlewood Park, Netherwood Park, Northwood Park, Oakwood Park, Pinewood Park and Westwood Park).

The late-Edwardian Dechmont House is located here, distinctively white-harled with red detailing around its windows ad a red-tiled roof. This replaced an earlier Dechmont House (or Dechmont Castle) which was built in 1869 by Edward Meldrum (1820-75), who made his fortune from shale oil, as the centre of his Dechmont Estate. Meldrum had demolished an earlier house to build his pile, which is turn was demolished in 1914 having become to expensive too maintain.
