Execution Stone

A stone set into the floor at the entrance to the Burns Mall in the centre of Kilmarnock (East Ayrshire), the Execution Stone sits where the gallows were once located at Kilmarnock Cross and commemorates the execution of a Covenanter John Nisbet on the 14th April 1683, the last execution in Kilmarnock. Crowds gathered to watch the event, and Nisbet was buried alongside other Covenanters in the graveyard of the Laigh Kirk.
