Kilwinning Mercat Cross

A modern sandstone monument at the eastern end of the pedestrianised Main Street, Kilwinning Mercat Cross lies between the Buffs Tavern and the garden of the neighbouring house. Originally dating from the Middle Ages, in 1835 it was moved here from its original position in the middle of the street and rebuilt in the 1980s incorporating a section of the original monument. It is A-listed and, unusually, is topped with a wooden cross.
