The Tower

Located between Beach Lane and Figgate Lane, behind Noble's Amusement Arcade on the Promenade in Portobello, the Tower is a B-listed three-stage octagonal castellated Gothic structure constructed of sandstone rubble with red-brick details. It incorporates carved stones dating from the late Mediaeval to the late 17th C. which were brought from Edinburgh. It was built in 1785 as a summerhouse for a local lawyer, John Cunningham, but restored and incorporated as part of a house in 1864.
