Caragrich Point

(Carragarie Point, Carrigridh Point)

A little headland on the northeast coast of Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides, Caragrich Point (Carragarie or Carrigridh Point) lies at the end of a minor road which extends through the township of Uidh. Caragrich Point looks out towards Castlebay in Barra and is the last resting place of a Chinese sailor, Leong Kow, who died when the SS Idomeneus was torpedoed by a German submarine on 15th September 1917. He has a memorial in Cuier kirkyard on Barra but his grave here is unmarked.
