Knockdolian Castle

A ruined but relatively complete rectangular tower-house located above the River Stinchar at Knockdolian in South Ayrshire, Knockdolian Castle dates from the 16th century. This picturesque small roofless tower comprises four storeys and a garret, built of rubble with ashlar quoins and featuring a corbelled-out parapet. It was a property of the Graham family, but passed to the McCubbins in the 17th century and then was bought by the Cathcarts in 1715, who build the adjacent mansion in 1842.
