Dalmellington Moss represents a lowland raised bog and nature reserve located a half-mile (1 km) west of Dalmellington in East Ayrshire. It lies within the floodplain of the River Doon, to the north of Bogton Loch, where the Muck Water enters the Doon. Hummocks of heather and deergrass are interspersed with waterlogged hollows full of Sphagnum mosses and cottongrass. Beetles, moths and dragonflies to thrive in these conditions, and the reserve is also noted for its birds. The reserve extend to 28 ha / 69 acres, is owned and managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and includes the adjacent Sillyhole Moss. It forms part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) with Bogton Loch.
An extensive network of drainage ditches were cut across the moss in the mid-20th century, resulting is water loss and degrading of the habitat. Mitigation measures were undertaken in 1995, 2005 and 2015-17 to raise water levels, rejuvenate the bog plants and allow it to form a natural flood storage reservoir in an area prone to flooding.
