(Haymarket Motive Power Depot, Haymarket Traction Maintenance Depot)
A significant railway maintenance, cleaning and fueling base at Roseburn, in W Central Edinburgh, Haymarket Depot provides overnight stabling and servicing for many of ScotRail's diesel-powered trains. Engine sheds were first built a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the east northeast in 1842 for the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway, in association with Haymarket Railway Station. The sheds at the current location followed later in the 19th C. and the development included a turntable alongside the Glasgow-Edinburgh Line. Steam gave way to diesel and a new motive power depot was constructed in 1963. These sheds were extended in 2018 to accommodate a fleet of High Speed Trains (HST) acquired by ScotRail to run between Scotland's major cities, having been refurbished after 40 years service on Great Western routes in the south of England. The depot now comprises a number of sheds and a train-wash.
