A concrete construction with steel parapets which carries the A6105 road over the Whiteadder Water in the
Scottish Borders, the David Hume Bridge lies immediately to the south of Chirnsidebridge, between Edrom and
Chirnside. Built by Berwick County Council in 1968 to replace the narrow 18th-C. Chirnside Bridge, it was
designed by Edinburgh-based civil engineers Blyth & Blyth and built by Reed & Mallik Ltd. of Salisbury in England. A
plaque on the bridge records that "David Hume (1711-76) Historian and Philosopher lived nearby at Ninewells"
