Thurso Bridge

A four-span masonry bridge spanning the River Thurso in Thurso (Caithness), the Thurso Bridge was the work of Elgin-based engineers Macbey and Gordon and was opened on the 3rd May 1887 by George Sinclair, 15th Earl of Caithness (1858-89). Its four segmental arches are separated by triangular cutwaters. There is a supplementary arch over a former mill lade to the southeast. It cost £4000 and replaced an earlier bridge dating from 1800. Thurso Bridge has been B-listed since 1975.
