Pier at Clydeport Hunterston extending out into the Fairlie Roads

An arm of the Firth of Clyde, the Fairlie Roads represent a deep-water channel which separates the island of Great Cumbrae from the mainland of North Ayrshire. The Hunterston Terminal comprises jetties built out into the Roads and features one of the deepest-water approaches of any port in Northern Europe.
