Glenmore Forest Park

A recreational forest park in Strathspey, Glenmore Forest Park extends over an area of 3,500 ha (8,600 acres) between the River Spey and the Cairngorm Mountains. Established in 1948, it was the second Forest Park created by the Forestry Commission in Scotland on land acquired in 1923. It comprises an important remnant of native pinewood surrounding Loch Morlich and is approached from Coylumbridge to the east of Aviemore. The park, which attracts over 250,000 visitors each year, also includes the national outdoor training centre at Glenmore Lodge, the Loch Morlich Watersports Centre, the Glenmore Visitor Centre and the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre. A project to encourage the regeneration of the native pinewood has also led to the creation of a footpath through the woodland linking Glenmore village and the Coire Cas providing access to the mountains. Glenmore is now managed by Forestry and Land Scotland.
