Part of the Hamilton estates which surrounded the former Hamilton Palace, the Low Parks lie to the northeast the town of Hamilton, opposite Motherwell. The Low Parks were once bordered by the River Clyde, but the M74 motorway has subsequently been routed immediately to the west of the river.
Considerably degraded is the tree-lined Grand Avenue once formed a vista which led from the Palace up to the Chatelherault Hunting Lodge and the High Parks.
Today, the Low Parks include the Hamilton Park Race Course, golf and sports facilities as well as a retail development which lies on the site of the former palace. The few buildings which date from the time of the palace include the Hamilton Mausoleum and the Hamilton Palace Riding School, the latter building now forming part of the Low Parks Museum.
