Glen Livet

(Glenlivet)

A famous valley of Highland Moray, Glen Livet carries the River Livet northwest to Strath Avon from its source in the Blackwater Forest, but is better known for its whisky distilleries and the malt which takes its name. In past centuries whisky was often produced here illegally, but today there are distilleries at Tomnavoulin, Castleton of Glenlivet and Chapeltown. The valley extends to 7½ miles (12 km) and its other rivers are the Crombie Water and the Blye Water.

The Battle of Glenlivet took place in 1594 and the Glenlivet Estate was purchased by the Crown Estates in 1937 from the Duke of Richmond.
