Dunsappie, a small lake (233 x 67 yards) at the E border of Canongate parish, Edinburghshire, on the depressed E shoulder of Arthur's Seat, contiguous to the most easterly reach of the Queen's Drive, 3 furlongs E by N of the summit of Arthur's Seat, and 1¼ mile by road SE of Holyrood Palace. It lies 360 feet above sea-level, amid grounds on which Prince Charles Edward's army encamped both before and after the battle of Prestonpans; it points the way of the easiest ascent to the summit of Arthur's Seat; and, in winter, being one of the first places to bear, is often crowded with skaters.
