Parish of Buchanan Buchanan is a parish, which lies in Stirling Council Area, some 13 miles (21 km) north of Alexandria in West Dunbartonshire and 13 miles (21 km) northeast of Helensburgh in Argyll and Bute.It is located in the old county of Stirlingshire, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.The parish has an area of 193.4 sq. km (74.6 sq. miles).
