Parish of Cockpen

Cockpen is a small parish, which lies in Midlothian Council Area, some 6 miles (9 km) east of Penicuik in Midlothian and 7 miles (12 km) southeast of Edinburgh in the City of Edinburgh.

It is located in the old county of Midlothian, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.

The parish has an area of 11.9 sq. km (4.6 sq. miles) and includes the settlement of Bonnyrigg. Cockpen has 4 neighbouring parishes; namely Borthwick, Carrington, Lasswade and Newbattle. The boundaries of this parish were modified as a consequence of the Local Government (Scotland), 1894.
