Rock singer and half of The Proclaimers with his twin brother Charlie. Born in Leith, the Reid brothers were brought up in Auchtermuchty. After setting up a punk-rock band in school, the twins formed the Proclaimers in 1983. They are renowned for their untrendy appearance, strong accents which characterise their singing and nationalist politics. Their hits include Letter from America (1987) and I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) (1988). These appeared on their albums This is the Story (1987), Sunshine on Leith (1988) and Hit the Highway (1994). Their music has featured in numerous films, such as Dumb and Dumber and in advertisements.
After seven years of silence, the Proclaimers returned to prominence in 2001 with their fourth album Persevere.
