Dr. Heather Reid

(Heather with the Weather)

1969 -

Meteorologist and broadcaster. Born and brought up in Paisley, Reid read physics (graduating 1991) and then remote sensing and image processing (graduating 1992) at the University of Edinburgh. She began her career with the UK Meteorological ('Met') Office in Bracknell (England), but was soon recognised as a potential broadcaster and posted to the Glasgow Weather Centre. Beginning in 1993, she has presented a nightly forecast on BBC Scotland's flagship Reporting Scotland news programme, where she quickly became known as Heather with the Weather, always beginning with her friendly catch-phrase "Hello there".

Named one of Scotland's most influential women by a leading Scottish Sunday newspaper in 1998, she was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Paisley, the town that remains her home. Reid received an OBE in the New Year Honours List of 2007. She retired from Reporting Scotland in 2009 and now works in science education.
