Sir Robert Abercromby


1740 - 1827

Soldier. Abercromby was born in Clackmannanshire, younger brother of Sir Ralph Abercromby (1734 - 1801). Like his brother he became a General and was later Member of Parliament for Clackmannanshire (1798). He also served in the American War of Independence. He was Governor of Bombay and led the Indian Army. Abercromby was appointed Governor of Edinburgh Castle in 1801.
