John Adam

1721 - 1792

Architect. Less notable son of William Adam (1689 - 1748) and brother of Robert (1728 - 1792) and James (1730 - 1794). John joined his father in the family architectural practice, becoming the business manager and taking charge when his father died. While much of his work was in conjunction with his father in the earlier years and he was assisted by his brothers in later years, his most notable independent work is the Moffat House Hotel in Dumfries and Galloway (1761).

He is buried alongside his father in Greyfriars Kirkyard, Edinburgh.
