Philanthropist. Born in Dundee, Caird was the youngest daughter of jute baron Edward Caird (1806-89), by his second wife. She married Herbert Charles Marryat (1844 - 1917), who was a colonel in the 96th Regiment of Foot (Manchester Regiment).
Mrs Marryat is best known for continuing the philanthropy of her half-brother Sir James Key Caird (1837 - 1916), allowing the completion of the Caird Hall in Dundee and funding the adjacent Marryat Hall. She also endowed the Sir James Caird Traveling Scholarships Trust, leaving the immense sum of £200,000 for that purpose.
Marryat died at her home, Finnart House on Loch Long, and lies buried next to her husband in Dean Cemetery in Edinburgh.
