Author and translator. Born Wilhelmina Anderson in Montrose (Angus), her parents came from Unst in Shetland. She was educated at Montrose Academy and then read classics at the University of St. Andrews. She married the poet Edwin Muir (1887 - 1959) in 1919 and worked with him on translating the works of Franz Kafka. She also completed translations herself, using the name Agnes Neill Scott, including A Roumanian Diary by Hans Carossa and The Child Manuela by Christa Winsloe. Agnes Neill Scott was a play on the name of their friend, the educationalist A. S. Neill (1883 - 1973). Muir published novels Imagined Corners (1931) and Mrs Ritchie (1933). She died at Dunoon and was cremated at Greenock Crematorium.
