William Douglas


(1st Earl of Queensberry; Viscount Drumlanrig)

c.1582 - 1640

Noble. The son of the 8th Lord Drumlanrig, Douglas was created Viscount Drumlanrig (1628) and 1st Earl of Queensberry (1633) by King Charles I following his loyal support of the Stuart Kings. In 1603, he married Isobel Kerr, daughter of Lord Newbattle. She died in Edinburgh in 1628, and was buried at Holyrood, while he was interred at Drumlanrig.
