Politician. Born in Edinburgh, Home Robertson was educated at Ampleforth College in Yorkshire and the West of Scotland Agricultural College, near Ayr. A farmer of his family estates at Paxton in the Scottish Borders, he gave the 18th C. Paxton House to the nation. Home Robertson was elected to Berwickshire District Council in 1974. He went on to serve as Member of Parliament for Berwick and East Lothian (1978-83) and then East Lothian from 1983. He was a whip for the Labour party in opposition and maintained interests in defence and Scottish issues. Home Robertson gained recognition as a volunteer driver for the aid convoys to Bosnia (1994-5).
Elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Rural Affairs.
