Busbie Muir Wind Farm

Located in North Ayrshire, the Ardrossan Muir Wind Farm (originally known as Busbie Muir Wind Farm) lies 3 miles (5 km) east southeast of West Kilbride and a similar distance north of Ardrossan. Commissioned in 2004, the farm is capable of generating a total of 24 megawatts (MW) of electricity from twelve 2 MW Danish-designed Vestas V80 turbines, which stand 100m (328 feet) high. An extension opened in 2008 which added a further three of the same turbines, to generate an additional 6 MW of power. The facility is operated by Irish wind-power specialists Airtricity.
