Whalsay Airstrip

Whalsay Airstrip is located at Skaw in the extreme northeast of the island of Whalsay in Shetland, with a well-maintained gravel runway, although there are now no scheduled flights. The service linking Tingwall and Out Skerries has a 'request stop' at Whalsay, but otherwise it is used for emergencies, occasional charters and private planes. Built in 1972, the single runway is 457m (1500 feet) in length, aligned SSW-NNE. The runway is not flat; there is a distinct hump in the middle. There is a waiting room and toilets, but no aircraft facilities or hangers. Whalsay Airstrip has the International Air Transport Association (IATA) location code "WHS". Whalsay Golf Course abuts the airstrip to the east.
