Hazlehead Park

A large heavily-wooded park on Groats Road in Aberdeen, Hazlehead Park extends to 72.9 ha (180 acres). The park was originally part of the freedom lands granted to the city in 1319, but passed into private ownership before it was bought back by the city in 1920. It comprises floral displays, a small animal zoo, the Queen Mother Rose Garden, play and sporting areas and the Piper Alpha Memorial Garden. The maze here was first planted in 1935 by Sir Henry Alexander and is considered to be one of the oldest still in existence in Britain.
