Stanely Reservoir

Stanely Reservoir comprises two adjacent ponds retained by extensive earth embankment dams situated 2 miles (3 km) southwest of the centre of Paisley. It extends to an area of 15.5 ha (38 acres). Built in 1837 by the Paisley Water Company to supply of drinking-water to the town, it is now operated by Scottish Water. During construction, an early Christian cross-shaft was moved to the southwestern shore of the reservoir by the water company. The 15th C. Stanely Castle lies partially submerged within the reservoir.
