A terminal station on north side of East Princes Street, Helensburgh Central Station (Gael: Baile Eilidh Meadhain) lies at the end of a short branch of the West Highland Line and provides a regular service into Glasgow Queen Street. It is preceded by Craigendoran Railway Station, a mile (1.5 km) to the southeast. Operated by ScotRail, Helensburgh Central Railway Station is staffed part-time and is used by 1,139,534 passengers in the year 2009-10. Built 1898-9 for the North British Railway Company, this was the third site for this station, as it successively moved closer to the town centre. It comprises four platforms, together with two-storey Renaissance-style station offices in pink sandstone ashlar and a separate range of single storey waiting rooms under a partially glazed barrel-vaulted roof. A long brick wall separates the station and its car park from the street. The station was refurbished in 1998 and buildings were B-listed in 2002.
