Kyle of Tongue Causeway

Conveying the A838 road across the Kyle of Tongue, an inlet on the north coast of Sutherland, the Kyle of Tongue Causeway was constructed in 1971 replacing a passenger ferry or the alternative of a 10-mile (16-km) trip around the inlet to the south. The causeway crosses the low-lying Tongue Island (Eilean Thunga) and includes a 183-m (201-yard) bridge over the channel at its western end.
