Isle Tower

A thoroughly-ruined small tower-house, Isle Tower lies next to the Lochar Water a quarter-mile (0.4 km) north of Bankend in Dumfries and Galloway. It once stood on a small island, isolated by the meanders of the river. Once comprising three storeys with a stair-tower projecting from the centre of the north wall, the tower probably built around 1565 and certainly reconstructed in 1622. It was a property of the Maxwell family.
