Millennium Cross & Solway Yacht Club, Kippford

Dedicated on 1st January 2000 and representing a community initiative, the Kippford Millennium Cross is located next to the village hall overlooking the Rough Firth. Standing 2.7m (9 feet) in height, the Dalbeattie granite cross was designed in Kippford and mounted on a rubble-clad reinforced concrete base which also contains a time capsule. The shaft of the cross is decorated with an anchor, representing the shipbuilding and port history of Kippford, crossed by a gull in flight. The project was driven by a committee of villagers following a public meeting in 1999 and cost £6500.
