Lochwinnoch Railway Station

(Lochside Railway Station, Loch Uinneach)

A rural two-platform railway halt on the Ayrshire Coast Line in Renfrewshire, Lochwinnoch Railway Station (referred to as Loch Uinneach in Gaelic) is situated between Castle Semple Loch and Barr Loch, a half-mile (1 km) southeast of Lochwinnoch (Renfrewshire) and 2¾ miles (4.5 km) north northeast of Beith (North Ayrshire). This station opened on the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock & Ayr Railway in 1840, although changed its name to Lochside Railway Station when a new Lochwinnoch Station opened closer to the town on the Dalry and North Johnstone Line in 1905. That newer station closed in 1966 and the name of this station reverted some years later. Now operated by ScotRail, Lochwinnoch Railway Station is unstaffed and was used by 190,086 passengers in 2016-17, which reflects remarkable growth from only 88,598 passengers in 2009-10. It is preceded by Glengarnock Railway Station, 4½ miles (7 km) to the southwest, and followed by Howwood, 2½ miles (4 km) to the northeast.
