Aros Castle

(An Aros)

A ruined fortress at Glengarrisale on the northwest coast of Jura in the Inner Hebrides, Aros Castle (or An Aros) was a stronghold of the MacLeans. The Campbells occupied the southern part of Jura and had complained for many years that they were being harrassed by the MacLeans. In 1647, events came to a head and they surprised the MacLeans at Aros and killed many of them.
