A links golf course, Shiskine is spectacularly-located beneath Drumadoon Cliffs, a half-mile (0.8 km) northwest of Blackwaterfoot, on the west coast of the Isle of Arran in North Ayrshire. Ranked as one of the top 100 golf courses in Britain, this 12-hole course extends to 2996 yards (2740m) and has a par of 42.
The course was laid out as nine holes on land leased from Drumadoon Farm in 1896 by the Troon professional Willie Fernie (1857 - 1924), but only the 5th and 9th holes of this original course survive. It was re-designed and extended to 18 holes in 1912 by Willie Park (1864 - 1925). During the First World War, six holes fell into disuse leaving the course much as it is today. A severe storm in 1991 washed away part of the course and stabilisation was only achieved in 1996 when gabions were placed along the shore.
The clubhouse has been refurbished and extended several times over the years, although it took on its current form from the 1930s. A new building was added in 1992, which serves as starters' box and sports shop.
