A roughly hewn granite memorial situated in a garden within Bon Accord Square, just to the south of Union Street in central Aberdeen, the Archibald Simpson Stone (or Archibald Simpson Monument) was erected in 1975 to commemorate the architect who did more than any other in laying out the 'Granite City'. The square in which the monument stands, built from 1823, is a fine example of his work. The granite block which forms the monument was originally cut for the George VI Bridge, built in 1941.
