Dryden Tower

A Gothic folly which forms a notable landmark in fields behind Langhill Farm in Midlothian, Dryden Tower once completed a vista from Dryden House, which lay a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the southeast, but was demolished in 1938. Built in sandstone in the mid-19th C., the tower comprises three stages with a corbelled-out platform and four prominent corner pinnacles at the top. A turnpike stair within provides access to the viewing platform. The tower was B-listed in 1971 and was subjected to a detailed restoration c.2015.
