Portmore Loch


(Portmore Reservoir)

A small loch and reservoir in the Scottish Borders, Portmore Loch lies 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Eddleston, a mile (2 km) south of Westmore and on the western edge of the Moorfoot Hills. Opened c.1878 and retained by an earth embankment dam, the reservoir covers an area of 55.4 ha (136 acres). It is now operated by Scottish Water for the supply of drinking-water. A private recreational fishery is managed by Portmore Fishing Syndicate.
