Eastern Channel

Forming a section of the Port of Grangemouth in Falkirk Council Area, the Eastern Channel extends to 28 ha (69 acres) of water and connects the Grange Dock to the Firth of Forth. It was constructed in 1906 as part of the Grange Dock development, effectively disconnecting the harbour from its dependency on the shallow mouth of the River Carron, thus allowing larger ships to enter directly from the Forth, via a sea-lock which retains water in the harbour at low tide. Today the channel contains several jetties associated the transport of chemicals and petroleum products, together with a dedicated liquified petroleum gas (LPG) berth.
