Hatton Castle

A castellated country house of N Central Aberdeenshire, Hatton Castle is located 3 miles (5 km) southeast of the settlement of Turriff. The lands had been the property of the Mowatt family since the 13th century and they erected the castle of Balquholly here in the 15th century. The castle was sold to the Duff family in 1723 and they built a house around the old castle in 1814. Hatton remains a family home and is surrounded by a 526 ha (1300 acre) estate.
