The ruined remains of Dunskey Castle in Dumfries and Galloway lie on a headland surrounded by cliffs on the west coast of the Rhins of Galloway, a half-mile (1 km) south of Portpatrick. The castle was built around 1510 by the Adair family on the site of an earlier structure which had been destroyed. It was designed as an L-plan tower house and protected by a ditch on its landward side. It was drawn in 1815 by William Daniell (1769 - 1837) with the resulting print appearing in his successful Voyage Round Great Britain.
