The ruined remains of Brahan Castle are located in the Ross and Cromarty district of Highland Council Area, 2 miles (3 km) east northeast of Marybank and 4 miles (6 km) southwest of Dingwall. The castle was built in 1611 and was the seat of the Earls of Seaforth, chiefs of the Clan Mackenzie. The 5th Earl of Seaforth lost his titles and estates in 1716, and Brahan became the headquarters of General Wade (1673 - 1748) while he pursued his 'pacification' of the Highlands. The family later regained some of their estates, but their titles remained forfeit. The estate was placed in trust when their descendant Baron Seaforth died in 1923. The castle was requisitioned by the military during the Second World War and its condition deteriorated. It was demolished in 1953. The former stable block now forms Brahan House.
The Brahan Seer, a 17th-century soothsayer, was a labourer on the estate.
