Blacket House

(Blackwood House)

A modest country house lying to the east of Eaglesfield (Dumfries and Galloway), to which it is connected by a private tree-lined drive, Blacket House (anciently Blackwood House) lies within a small 30.3-ha (75-acre) estate. It was built in 1835 for poet and surgeon Eaglesfield Smith (c.1770 - 1838), designed by Dumfries-based architect Walter Newall (1780 - 1836). Constructed in red sandstone, in Tudoresque style, this two-storey house features steep dormer-heads their colour contrasting with the grey slated roof.

Blacket Tower lies adjacent.
