Lochty Private Railway

A former heritage railway and associated museum which operated between 1967 and 1992 on part of the former East Fife Central Railway at Lochty in Fife. It was operated by wealthy farmer and businessman John Cameron (b.1939), who also had significant interest in railways and served as Chairman of ScotRail.

The East Fife Central Railway opened in 1898 connecting Leven with Lochty. It was intended to allow exploitation of the East Fife Coalfield, but the coal reserves proved disappointing and the line was immediately loss-making, relying on limited agricultural traffic. The limited service was terminated in 1964.
