Located between Clarkston and Newton Mearns, within East Renfrewshire Council Area, Greenbank Gardens comprises 6 ha (14.5 acres) of ornamental walled garden, formal garden and woodland walks, surrounding a Georgian house (1763) which was built for Robert Allason, one of Glasgow's merchants. Allason laid out a designed landscape between 1763 and 1772, although the presence of a garden may pre-date this period and relate to a former house. A sundial stands in the centre of the walled garden has been dated to around 1600.
Perhaps most notable for its daffodil collection, it contains a fine collection of designs of suburban gardens, fountains, and a specially created garden suitable for disabled gardeners. The gardens feature more than 3700 plant species and include the national collection of Bergenia (elephant's ears).
Greenbank House and Gardens are now owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland, and a shop and tea-room are available for visitors during the summer.
