Melgund Castle

Located 4 miles (7 km) southwest of Brechin, near the village of Aberlemno by Forfar in Angus, Melgund Castle was built in 1543 by Cardinal David Beaton for his mistress, Marion Ogilvy. Although built as a castle, its features are more in line with those of a stately home; the battlements are purely for display. Although ruined in part, the Tower is undergoing private restoration.
